Amanda's Journey Begins
Amanda Lynn’s journey with Marfan syndrome began in a rural part of Oregon. Early signs, such as her declining eyesight in second grade, led to her diagnosis. Despite the diagnosis, Amanda was fortunate to have supportive parents who helped her navigate through it without inducing unnecessary anxiety.
Growing Up with Marfan Syndrome
As Amanda shared her experiences, one can see the blend of complications and resilience. Diagnosed at eight, Amanda recounts how her experience differed compared to her siblings. While they had to manage issues like fallen arches, she dealt with high arches, which serendipitously made her a natural in ballet. This early love for physical activities, despite her condition, was nurtured by an aunt and an ex-CIA ballet teacher who disciplined her in the rigors of Russian ballet.

Yet, her approach remained proactive and hopeful, continuously improving her quality of life through careful monitoring and being near excellent trauma centers.

Despite warnings against pregnancy due to genetic concerns and cardiovascular risks, Amanda embraced motherhood, aware and prepared for the potential complications. Her approach emphasizes living fully rather than being restricted by her condition.
Surgical Interventions and Innovations
As Amanda approaches the need for surgery, she discusses the advanced procedures available, like the David V procedure, which spares the aortic valve and uses a special material to reinforce the heart. Innovations like these highlight the progress in treating Marfan syndrome and offer hope to many.
Psychological and Spiritual Resilience
Beyond the physical challenges, Amanda speaks candidly about the psychological and spiritual journey living with Marfan syndrome entails. Using psilocybin and marijuana has helped her stay above her conditions, embracing life’s unpredictability with a positive mindset.
